A Planned Fire

Uncle Hans bought a building site with several buildings beyond repair, and so the volunteer fire department had some practice on starting and managing fires.

The Flowers Appear

"For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone;
The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come..."
Song of Solomon 2:11-12

Bright Lights Tuesday

This week Maren taught the last Bright Lights lesson of the season. It seems like spring busyness begins earlier every year, so we have found April a good cut-off point for this ministry's season. No need to tax the already full schedules of the girls... and the teacher. Still, I know Maren will miss the time of learning and growing together with these special, young friends.

The lesson for the week was "Making Brothers and Sisters Best Friends." That was followed by a fun time of hand crafts (each girl brought her own) while Maren read a short biography on a godly woman. Tea came after that, of course!

Mom's Knitting Find

Mom found one of her knitting projects at Grandpa and Grandma R.'s home while sorting. She thinks it was going to be a vest, perhaps. The pattern and a few decades are gone, so Mom unraveled the pieces to make nice balls of yarn for another project. The project is still to be determined, but let us hope it has a speedier completion.

Spring Is Come

Today it may be snowing, but spring is here!

There and Back Again

We did it! Another trip to visit doctors and enjoy away-from-home scenes.

This marina/floating house bay is becoming a familiar haunt to us and our cameras.

Dry docked for only a little longer.

An afternoon in the sun by the Mighty Mississippi.

Our new find this trip was a limestone quarry. Dad brought home a few sizeable scraps for Mom's garden path, a gift for Mom who was holding down the fort with Dorothy during our four day "vacation."

Grand Sorting Project, Continued

Sometimes Mom brings home some little things for us to enjoy from her work at G. and G.'s home. Much of these things found a home in the dumpster once we enjoyed a peak into a different era and my grandma's great thrift. (Many times expertly patched union suite, anyone?) One day we women-folk took an outing to G. & G.'s home to reminisce in person.

A Morning of Cake Making

Dorothy's CNA has two daughters who are one year and a day apart in age. This year they turned six and seven. And Mom made them a little, chocolate cake each.

Cheery Hangers

Joy: A box full of wooden hangers from a friend to dress in playful or pretty coats (great for sweaters and slippery sleeves)!
Lesson: Do not crochet when tendinitis is beginning to rear its ugly head, or you will be typing blog posts with one hand.
(These three hangers are Hannah's lovely creations.)

Grandma's Easter Box

The Grand Sorting Project at Grandpa and Grandma R.'s house continues! These are a couple finds that herald to a different era.

I'm rather partial to these delicately colored Easter eggs over the bold, modern version.

Mom remembers making this hollow sugar egg in her early married years.

Looking inside the hole in the front is a surprise! Mom says she looked for something more meaningful to put inside, but this bunny was all she could find. Anyway, the bunny is cute!

Christ is Risen!

"Let His church with gladness
Hymns of triumph sing,
For her Lord now liveth;
Death hath lost its sting."
Edmund L. Budry, 1884

Easter Preparation

Dad has been practicing trumpet for months, and now the day is nearly here! While he plays the joyous Easter songs, our hearts have been preparing to celebrate the life changing event that happened nearly two millennium ago.
