The Barn Floor

The cement floor of our old sheep barn (cows and pigs occupied it before we moved here) now houses a new crop.

Dad spent the winter planning his not-so-ordinary garden. When a heart attack slowed him down*, uncles and a young friend helped finish construction.

Part of Dad's winter planning was a scientific study of how to make a soil mixture that is light, holds water and has good nutrition. Here Mom is mixing in some chicken manure.

We have already enjoyed radish and spinach from Dad's gardens. Much more is to come.

*Update on Dad's health: While requiring more rests, Dad is back to all of his activities with the addition of cardiac rehab. He is a model patient - eats well, exercises well, has great vitals. A miracle!

After a Birthday...

...comes a fridge stuffed with good food...

...and a counter stacked with dirty dishes.

Hannah's Birthday, Observed

Since Hannah's birthday was on a busy-greenhouse-Friday, Maren and Jason's partaking of birthday celebrations was delayed until the next Sunday.

Cake #2... or #3 when you count the gluten free lemon filled cake the rest of the family ate. This one was all mine - eggless, chocolate-less and made by Hannah, too. Hannah got to blow out the candles.

May Twenty-Sixth

This year's celebrations were small but with good flavor. Due to my hives breakout, Hannah had to make her own birthday cake. Since Hannah is back to an occasional egg, a favorite recipe from pre-eggless days could be dug out again.

Laughing over a family joke.
